Another update
I figure I’m going to write in this more, damnit. When I can find the time. Not that I’ve done much lately, but when I look back and read, I reminisce about all the good and bad times. Though usually that makes me more sad-nostalgic than happy-nostalgic…
Now this is one of those negative posts, unfortunately. Seems those are usually the only catalysts to write in here. I ought to change that.
Though nothing negative has happened … yet. However, oil is at $110/barrel which does not bode well for the airline industry. Couple this with the fact that my company reported a $30+ million dollar loss last quarter, and just today announced that they have $65 million less in cash than they had though means that it’s entirely possible I’ll be laid off (aka furloughed) before the year is up… hell, before the summer is up.
So the back up plan? I’m not sure, at all… I applied to be an air traffic controller a month or so ago, and I’m scheduled to take the test next week, though I doubt they’ll offer me anything in Phoenix, which is the only place I’d really want to work… and having just moved Lauren all the way out here, I can’t uproot her again. Other alternatives include going to my third airline in less than 18 months, which means first year pay (think: under $20,000) for 30 months… and commuting to somewhere else, potentially cross country (think: blows)… OR find some other random job and jump blindly into that… which is starting to seem a little more appetizing.
All of the options suck though, so I might just flight instruct for a while and get my master’s degree? Who knows. It’s just shitty to have to make these decisions. You grow up quick out in the real world!
